Into the Wild

-My initial thoughts on Into the Wild are curiosity. I think it is very cool and brave of McCandless to do what he wants to do. The curiosity comes from what he leaves. He is an intelligent person with no money issues and he does what he wants.
-I think the word courageous displays Chris' character. He has what a lot of people would want, and in a way throughs that away to do something many people would look down upon.
-I think author Krakauer is trying to magnify the theme of personal accomplishment. He shows this by using a person who wants something other then the ordinary, Chris is an individual who wants to experince his independance. Krakauer could be trying to tell us to go out and get what we want regardless of the "social norm."
-I relate Chris to Bear Grills of "Man vs Wild." This is more of a litteral connection then anything because Bear Grills is a man who travels places with no humanity and lives off of the land. This is what Chris did.
-I could relate the story of Chris to my brother. Its a totally different situation but similar orginiality in accomplishment theme. My brother decided he wanted to do plays and singing instead of sports. This may seem simple, but at first my brother was afraid of going after what he wanted because he is the youngets of the family who follows a family that revolves around sports. His choice to render free of other peoples opinions and do what he wants is in parrallell to Chris.

Negative Review of Mr. 3000

In September of 2004, a movie is brought to the world that brings nothing to the table. “Mr. 3000” is a tale of a baseball player, Stan Ross, who is a cocky athlete. Retiring after setting his MLB record of 3000 hits, Stan Ross does nothing but role in his success. Loving life being known as Mr. 3000, Stan Ross does everything to make people dislike him. Upon review by MLB statistics holder it is discovered that Stan Ross- Mr. 3000- is actually Mr. 2997. It is found that 3 of Stan Ross’ hits shouldn’t have counted. Stan Ross is stripped of his batting record. When Stan Ross figured out that he is not the man he has bathed in his past retired years, he is furious. He makes the decision to go back to the MLB to try and get his record back. Stan Ross obviously cares nothing about the sport of baseball. He displays his selfishness by the way he plays baseball. When he gets back into the MLB he puts himself before his team, “He’s putting the “I” back in team,” as a teammate of Stan Ross’ jokes. Director Charles Stone III is clearly trying to humorously harass cocky athletes. This is obvious when reviewing the plot of the movie. Charles Stone III reveals the true character of Stan Ross by removing his swagger. He is a fool when he has no record to show. The theme is there but I don’t think it is a good one. The way the baseball scenes are put together it ruins the movie. It is impossible for the event of a record to be retracted from a player. Baseball has so many more opportunities to better put this theme to. I do not like the movie “Mr. 3000” it is worthless. The concept viewers are supposed to uncover is already known by civilized people.

Positive Movie Review 11/12

Van Wilder

In "Van Wilder" main character, Van Wilder, demonstrates the spitting image of a college failure. Son of a wealthy father, Van Wilder has been a student of Coolidge College for six years. When Van's father realizes when he needs to "cut his losses" he tells Van he is done paying for his college. Van Wilder being a famous partier at Coolidge seems to be hopeless. How would he manage to make payments and graduate college with no cash support? Just when his situation seems dier, Van is approached by a few students of a Fraturnity. The fraturnity is known as the "brains" of the school and they come to Van to expand socially. They offer Van $1,000 dollars to through them a party. Movie writer Brent Goldberg shows the audience how inteligince can make any skill shine. Van Wilder throws the Fratunity a party. The fallowing week the school news paper had uncovered the secret; van wilder had thrown that party. What had seemed to hurt van actually publisized him. Van Wilder is now im business. By throwing parties Van wilder gains enough money to make his way through college and graduate. The story demonstrates how hard work can pull through. Van Wilder could through parties, he used his skill to make his money to pay for his college. Brent Goldberg incorporates humor and suspense flawlessly in "Van Wilder" by setting a realistic and humorous college seen. By partying to much he lost his fathers respect and money, but in the end his partying skills provide him with everything he needs to get things done. The way the Goldberg brings a positive theme into college partying is original and interesting. He shows how perserverince with the motive to do right things leads to success, under what look to be impossible circumstances. Main character Van Wilder finds what it takes to earn a dollar. Throwing parties really took a toll on Van. This is when he got motivation to stop partying and to graduate. This motive is an important theme in "Van Wilder."

20 Minutes with the President

1)Dear Mr. President,
Congratulations on winning the election, you are now running the United States of America. Although you know how to do the job much better then I do, I have a few suggestions regarding how time and money could be spent to better our country. I feel money should be kept to the people who make it, and taxes should not be raised to much. I do understand taxes must be raised because money in the end helps better the future of our economy. I think you should put money towards a new source of energy because oil is gonna eventually run out, or a way to make oil at a cheep price. I think time needs to be spent first off to fix the economy now, our future is very important but in order to get there we need to fix the current problems at hand. What do you think is the best way to go about fixing the issues I brought up?
Sincerely,
Minnesota5

2)
a) In the year 2012 I will be leaving college and things will have changed. I think Obama will try and quit the war in Iraq so I'm guessing that in the next four years we wont have troops there. This will be a big change from now. I hope by pulling out our forces that the war stops. If we pull out and Iraq comes after us again, we could be right back where we started only with more drama and a loss of more money and lives. I hope by 2012 the war is over with no consequences.
b) Thinking ahead to when I will most likely be a husband with a family, I don't know if I'm confident that we will still be the world power. I once heard a statistic that said something along the lines of; no country has maintained power for over 100 years. When I heard this I was also told that we were not getting close to, but over the 100 years. Therefore, I think the biggest issue will be to maintain our status as a country. I would hope we could stay a dominant country because, if not, we could potentially fall under rule of another country.

Halloween

Halloween is a fun time for everyone. From kids trick or treating, teens and adults partying, everyone loves halloween. Yesterday I went out and baught a halloween costume for a party on friday. It was a tough decision but I ended up getting a genie costume. I think it will be fun to dress up as and funny at the same time. Also, I found out that when a friend of mine comes back from college over thanksgiving break they're throwing a party with the theme of "G." This means dress up as anything that starts with a G. My genie costume will be great for halloween and for the "G" party. This is cool and also makes me feel better about spending $45 on a costume.

10/13 Playing with poetry

1)Hard to explain
but surely wont fade
concepts may not be understandable
just as a proof
you must work for an answer
math is better done by two
doesn't mean they will ask about you
time it takes
and time it will consume
maybe in the end
more will bloom
not always taught
and hard to answer
love is like math
eventually you'll find an answer

2)The Road to Love(revised)

hard to explain
the feelings won’t fade
Concepts not understandable

you must work,
a proof nonetheless

Math is better done by two
maybe their answer,
as priority to you

time problems take,
and time learning will consume
hoping at the end,
an answer will bloom

not always taught
and sometimes hard to answer
so donate dedication
you’ll find an answer.

i get to hockey,
what a reliefe

the weekend is soon,
a mear belief

As monday goes bye,
i relief with a sigh

mondays are long
not as the weekend-
which i long

monday is a start,
which has no end

therefore i know
this cycle never ends

Oct. 7th blog

Love poems are deep. They show a theme of love. The thing is, there are so many different aspects of love that it makes it hard. So far this unit i have learned more about love, and actually started to look at love in a new way. If not in just one new way but many ways. There are endless ways to look at "love."

Love Is Like a.. my own words

Love is like hunger,
it comes and goes
even if you think you are in love
love is like a baseball game
feelings grow and grow
untill the 9th inning
when you go home
feelings are lost
as new oppurtunities unfold
youll find yourself wondering
what your next love might behold

Love Is Like a...

By: Sara Teasdale
I Am Not Yours

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.

You love me, and I find you still
A spirit beautiful and bright,
Yet I am I, who long to be
Lost as a light is lost in light.

Oh plunge me deep in love, put out
My senses, leave me deaf and blind,
Swept by the tempest of your love,
A taper in a rushing wind.

3)From: http://www.poetry.com/lovepoems/lovepoems.asp

4)Author, Sara Teasdale, displays the theme of love when love is not found anymore between a couple. She explains how someone can be in love and then lose their spirit. Someone can have once been in love and then lose the feelings while the other person stands to believe the love is mutual.

5)"Lost as a snowflake in the sea." This metaphore explains how feelings are lost because obviously a snowflake in the sea with just melt and die just as feelings for someone can do the same.

Poetry Critique

The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

2)I chose this poem because when I read it, I felt a connection. I think the point of taking your own path is important as following others all the time doesn't make you who you really are.
3)The title "The Road Not Taken" is very easily seen in the ideas of the poem. Robert Frost literally travels one road instead of another because he sees the oppotunity in not following "most people."
4)"Because it was grassy and wanted wear" Frost uses imagery here to show that this path has been wanted less be previous travelers and we can tell because the vegitation is much more full then the other path that has been cleared by walking people.
5)I find the tone of this poem to be a kind of personal motivator. It starts as a dilema and shows how making the personal choice- opposed to the popular choice- makes "all the difference." It gives the idea that a lot of positives have come from making the individual choice.

IM Football

I have an IM football game this week and i am really looking forward to it. Being on the "Harlem Hustlers" We have need to win; being that this team is a legacy that's been passed down we have one job, win the tournament. It is so much fun and our team is dominant. At the end of the season playoffs decide the winner, after the winner is decided the teachers put together a dream team to play us. I'm looking forward to playing teachers that I've had in the past because it will be fun to get some payback.

Persnoal narrative titles

My current title is "dreams to dreams." I am very satisfied with my current title because it goes deep into the mening of my paper. The title came to me when I was doing pre-writing for my essay and it was love at first site.

Cabin continued, hope in future

Earlier I blogged all about my cabin. I told how i could have fun there any time, winter or summer. And I fish in both seasons as well. I found an opportunity to get up to my cabin and explore fishing on a whole new level. For school there is may term, an opportunity for students to get exempt from school to do something they enjoy or would like to try. Because you would be exempt from school there must be an education piece in whatever you do, and or would benefit the public. I have an idea of studying fishing on a scientific level and recording how weather and mother nature effects the fishing. I'm hopping this will work out and i will be able to go fish and learn about fishing in the paradise of my cabin!

Personal Narrative Paragraph

The faces around the locker room would have told you how much that game meant. One of my good friends who was a senior made his way over to my spot-not even trying to hold his tears-gave me a hug and told me the best thing i could do was win it the next year when i would be a senior.
I feel like the paragraph lacks emotion because of my word choice. This paragraph isn't supposed to give you a full idea of the story but rather set a tone.
Do you think I need to expand more on in order to create emotion?

Discover

Cabin times, summer, winter, fishing, family and friends.
The cabin is a place where family and friends can get together to enjoy every aspect of life. I find the summer most enjoyable at the cabin. I am able to bring friends and we can do anything. Whether its fishing, swimming, jet-skiing, or just cookin over the fire; there's never any boring down time. Every year i look forward to the new summer cabin season because i am positive the summer will have something new to offer. We caught some tuna this past summer. During the winter a cabin trip is more scarce. We only go up a few times during the winter, usually to check up on the place and do some ice fishing. Last winter we caught dinner. When it comes down to it the cabin is never a let down. It will remain in the family forever, and i look forward to every trip that remains.
